The seasons are what a symphony ought to be: four perfect movements in harmony with each other. ~ Arthur Rubenstein
It's been an eventful month weather-wise with near-record snowfall. With snow in the forecast this weekend, the Chicago area could break our February all-time record if we receive another inch of the white stuff by Monday.
Last week's balmy temperatures melted our two-foot snow cover. As much as I enjoy winter's slower pace and freedom from gardening chores, it sure is sweet seeing a bit of green, and knowing spring is just a few short weeks away.
I've been looking for green, too, Linda. It was certainly reassuring to see some green leaves in my garden the past few days, but another blanket of white is covering it all again this morning. Ah, spring will come one of these days:)
ReplyDeleteI know. I feel like I'm gettign spring fever too soon.
ReplyDeleteI kind of don't want winter to end. I'm not ready for spring this year. You have a lot of nice foliage in the garden. George looks like he's contemplating something really serious in the garden.
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait for spring! I always find this late winter time to be the roughest of the year. There's no redeeming qualities to the weather at this point!
ReplyDeleteI have a photo of my garden with a snow covering. It looks so good. For once all the brow is hidden! But, our two inches that lasts a few days is nothing like ya'll get. Hugs. Now if you need to come visit! gail
ReplyDeleteWe got snowed on again last night too Rose - a couple of inches. It was a really pretty snow, even if we don't 'need' anymore! Glad you found some green in your garden too!
ReplyDeleteIt will so wonderful getting out with your little guy in the warm weather Rosemarie - what fun!
I kinda know what you mean MBT. Life gets a lot busier once spring gets here. I'll be ready for spring when it gets here - in the meantime, I'm still enjoying winter.
I hear you Rose! I'm probably in the minority not minding winter.
The snow's so pretty Gail, especially when it's fresh! Hope all's safe sound there - sounds like y'all got some pretty heavy weather today.
I'd love to come visit sometime. Hugs back atcha!
Oh yes! You're so right. I love to see some green too. But especially I love to see the first flowers... like snowdrop or hellebores. Your doggy looks quite confused... as if he was wondering where all the snow has gone :o).
ReplyDeleteTake care and have an en joyful weekend
Alex
Hi Linda it is really looking great...lovely to see the colour green!
ReplyDeleteTyra
Hello Alex, I'm looking forward to the first flowers too! The snowdrops and hellibores are still sleeping here, but it won't be long now!
ReplyDeleteThank you Tyra!
The white has overtaken the green here again, but it's all good. Before long everything will be a lovely fresh green, and right now the snow is fresh, pristine, and lovely.
Wow, I have a LOT more snow than you do. I don't know where you're at, but I'm way out west towards NIU and now even today, I am getting more of the offensive white stuff!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful blanket of leaf mulch your perennials enjoy!
We have more now Sissy, It's a blanket of white again. This afternoon it can't decide if it wants to rain or snow - it's a fine mist of both at the moment.
ReplyDeleteWe are in the south suburbs - I think we missed the worst of the most recent snow - there's about two inches out there now.
We definitely have more than our share of leaves here, and they do make a wonderful winter blanket!
Love your green thoughts of spring, Linda. Near record breaking snow for February, again today, this post makes my heart sing.
ReplyDeleteHope you're enjoying the beautiful snow Joey!
ReplyDeleteHere we've now broken all previous February records, and this month is the ninth highest snowfall of any month for all the years records have been kept. The weather folks are predicting an inch or two of rain for tomorrow night!
I'm with Mr. Brown Thumb. I'm not quite ready for spring yet. Sure I have those moments where a sun beam or breeze will make spring fever wash over me.
ReplyDeleteBut I have some inside projects I want to get done before I can even think about outside.
I know what you mean Debbie.
ReplyDeleteI'm in no rush. Time goes by quick enough, and spring will get here when it's good and ready to.
I do not want Spring to leave Georgia but in order for you to see spring, I must let her go. I will hold on to her for a little bit longer though. Be looking for her soon ;-)
ReplyDeleteHopefully we'll have a bit of time to enjoy spring in both places Skeeter! I'm not in a rush - spring is coming to Chicago in her own sweet time. :) Now that March is here, it's looking and feeling more like spring here every day.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of doing a post on evergreen perennials as they are so sweet to stay in the garden. You got some stalwarts there and it is nice to see green! I hope it stays around for a while too.
ReplyDeleteThey are sweet Tina! It's nice to see some green as soon as the snow melts while most of the perennials are still sleeping.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty - and surprisingly little mush.
ReplyDeleteEsther
It's a very well-draining garden Esther. It doesn't get mushy, but it does get very dry in the summer. The swale at the back of our yard is VERY mushy right now, since the melted snow drained back there, and we've had some rain on top of the still-frozen ground.
ReplyDeleteIt was great fun seeing you again Linda. I enjoyed the show but most of all the company.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same Lisa - it was wonderful seeing you, and hanging out with everyone was the best part!
