Spring Fling Update - Chicago Botanic Garden

Due to popular request, the Spring Fling schedule has been revised, with the Chicago Botanic Garden visit moved from Thursday to Friday so more participants can attend.

Please visit the Chicago Spring Fling website to learn more.

If you've never been to Chicago Botanic Garden, you won't want to miss it. If you've been before, you can't wait to go back.

Thank you Botanic Garden staff, who have been so accommodating and welcoming, and for all you've done on our behalf. We appreciate you.

  2. That lake surrounded by flowers is glorious, Linda. I especially love that third photo.
Looks like a wonderful place to visit.
I'm sorry to be missing the Spring Fling, but will be following the events with great interest. I'm sure you'll all have a wonderful time.
    Happy April Fools Day!

  5. Hi Kerri, oh, it is! I'd been there as kid, but haven't been back as an adult until last year when Monica invited me to join her there last summer. Blogging has inspired me to visit many of the jewels of the Chicago area's public gardens, and I continue to be enriched by the experiences.

I'm sorry you won't be able to make it to Spring Fling, and I hope you'll enjoy it vicariously through the blogs! I have truly enjoyed visiting public and private gardens and gardening events through the blogs - it's the next best thing to being there!

Happy April Fools Day! I've already been fooled once, and now I'm on the alert!

  6. Hi Monica, thanks to you for getting me there for the first time in years last summer!

I'm really looking forward to seeing the gardens in a different season. It'll be great to get back there again, this time with SF! I'm looking forward to having you here in the south suburbs too!

It will be an early morning for me - committee members will accompany both shifts on the train, and I'll be going with the early group. I'm in the category of someone who wants to spend the most time there as possible too, so it will be a long day, but well worth it I'm sure.

You're welcome to come early with me or take the train into the city for the later group if you'd prefer to sleep in.

  7. I'll be on the early train with you, Garden Girl, and I can't wait. Having seen the CBG a couple of years ago, I'm dying to see it again in the spring. Thanks to the SF committee and the CBG staff for being so accommodating!

  9. Excellent Pam! I'm looking forward to meeting you.

I'm dying to see it in the spring too. It will be much different than it was late last summer, but equally beautiful I suspect!

  10. I wish you could too Lynn! I felt the same last year about Austin. Who knew I'd be part of planning it this year. I wish more than ever I'd been in Austin now!

  11. How lovely, Linda. Wish I could join you but looking very iffy. I've never been there but must go!

  12. I've only been once before and it was only for an hour or so. I can't even remember what I saw or what it looked like.

    I hope it wasn't a traumatic experience that I'm blocking out :0)

  13. Hi Joey, I hope something changes and you can make it! It's going to be a great experience. But don't worry, even if you can't make it, you'll be seeing a lot of it on the blogs.

I hope it wasn't traumatic MBT! I think you'll enjoy it. The place is humongous. There are so many different styles of gardens to see. It's really beautiful.

  14. Thanks for the update, Linda. I've been busy lately and haveb't checked the website for updates, but was a little confused when I heard this was being added on Thursday. I'm so happy you've included this for Friday; I've never been to the Botanic Gardens, and it's been on my list of "must-see" places for some time.

Your group is doing a terrific job organizing all of this!

  15. You're welcome Rose. I think Thursday threw everyone for a loop!

We feel the CBG will be a highlight of the Fling. We're glad it now has it's rightful place on the schedule, so as many people as possible can go.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Rose. It means a lot to us.

Hi Linda/Garden Girl~~ I finally made it over to your blog. I'm so glad I did, although sadly I won't be heading to the Chicago Botanic Garden any time soon. Your previous post on pass-a-long plants was delightful. Your elderly neighbor/garden mentor, what a blessing she must have been.

If you're ever in the Chicago area and want to see some beautiful gardens, the CBG is a great choice.

  19. Good morning Frances - I think so too! Right from the beginning it was hard to imagine SF in Chicago without a visit to CBG - looks like our participants agreed. The planning committee is very happy to include CBG in SF!

I'm looking forward to meeting you bright and early Friday, and enjoying this beautiful place with our group!

  20. I've been to CBG twice, but as you said, I can't wait to go back! What a treasure right there in the middle of Chicago. I love this place!

Yes, many thanks to both the Spring Fling committee and the CBG for being so flexible about scheduling the visit!
