That third flower looks like my sedum autumn joy that is starting to bloom. Every bud is so precious! I go outside in the mornings, and if there is any new growth on plants, I get so excited. Like a kid at Xmas!

  4. Great title! I think we over look buds at times because we want the pretty flowers so badly. As you have shown, buds are just as pretty!

What beautiful flower buds! I love the way they look just before they start to open. Great post!

  6. Nice buds. They do seem to last longer than the planys do sometimes.

  7. Brenda, it does kind of look like sedum doesn't it! The foliage is nothing like sedum, although you can't tell since it's blurry in the background. I hope you're feeling much better now!

Thank you Sheila. I love when the color starts to show - it means blooms soon!

Gail, she does look rather shy doesn't she! I hadn't thought of that until your comment, but now I see it.

That fuchsia is another plant I overwintered in the basement. It's much larger and more glorious this summer, although it did take a while to start blooming after it came outside. If I'd bought a new one I'd have had instant gratification, but this didn't start blooming until a couple of weeks ago. Now that it's started though, I think it was was worth the wait.

Thank you Skeeter! I took photos of many more buds than I posted. The hosta and phlox buds were especially pretty too. I enjoyed getting up so close to the buds to take the pictures - it made me appreciate their beauty so much more.

Perennial Gardener, Thank you! Often in the past I've noticed the buds but didn't pay much attention to them until they opened. I've realized I can appreciate the beauty of the buds for their own sake.

Thanks Cinj! They seem to take forever to open, then one day you wake up and . . . surprise - beautful buds have morphed into lovely blooms! The bud stage does often seem to last much longer than the bloom stage, so I've decided it's time to start appreciating the buds for their own sake.

  8. Love your title:)
I think only a gardener can appreciate buds--the anticipation and excitement of wondering when that first bloom will appear.

I love that rudbeckia. It has the face of birth on it, doesn't it? You captured a perfect moment.

  10. Sometimes the buds are better than the flowers. (Especially when you've got Earwig problems.)
