Garden2Blog12 - The Garden Home Retreat

This spring I was honored to be invited to attend P. Allen Smith's Garden 2 Blog 2012, when a couple dozen garden bloggers gathered in Little Rock, Arkansas for a rollicking good time that included a day at his Garden Home Retreat.

It was wonderful being able to visit the farm for a second time, in a different season.  Last fall after being one of three winners of a photo contest sponsored by Garden Safe, the Lawn Man and I were treated to an all-expenses-paid trip to the farm for an event called A Tale of Two Farms.  Like this time, I did a slideshow of the event so I could cram as many pictures as possible into one post.  If you missed it, you can see the slideshow from last fall here.

This isn't a wordy post, and without further ado, hope you enjoy this photo visit to the Garden Home Retreat at Moss Mountain.

Attendees at Garden2Blog 2012 received transportation, hotel accommodations, and meals at no cost. Event sponsors provided samples and product giveaways with no cost or obligation.  All opinions in this post are mine.

  1. Lovely slide show. You have such a wonderful eye for composition, both of plants and photography.

    1. Aw, thanks Mom! Glad you enjoyed it. The only problem with these slide shows is the photography seems to suffer some. The photos seem to come out kind of blurry, whereas the actual photos are much clearer. Oh well - couldn't have packed in as many pictures posting them individually. :)

    3. Thank you, Nadezda! It is a very hot 4th of July here, expected to be close to 100 degrees (F). We will spend a lot of time indoors with the air conditioning on to keep cool and drown out some of the noise from all the illegal fireworks people shoot off in their backyards! We will enjoy the day, and I will enjoy a day off from work. :)

There are some really cool combinations of plants in that slideshow. It's crazy that my alliums are just finishing up going to seed, but there were A. schubertii seed pods in the pic and you took them a long time ago.

    1. I thought so too, MBT. Bet it looks really nice now that everything has gotten a lot bigger.

It was really interesting being two zones away and seeing stuff like those alliums already finished when alliums here weren't even blooming yet.

  5. Those were lovely pictures and I guess something that most of us from or in the USa can more easily strive for. I come in contact with so many immigrants over here who can't even imagine a lifestyle as depicted by those slides.

At the moment we are hosting some guests from Sierra Leone and they were relating all the horrific scenes from those years of war and misery. It's incredible how it takes folks like these to make you appreciate things you take for granted. I'm not talking about all the 'Rah Rah Rah' the USA has Freedom bit. Sweden touts the same thing and they sacrificed family for these so-called freedoms and better lifestyles. Many of these poorer folks if nothing else still have their close family ties and I don't just mean immediate relations.

Okay sorry for the rant, but I just came in from hearing all of this to finish some things I wanted to write about and finish as far as drafts and it's a bit harder to finish for the moment. Maybe tomorrow.

My wife and I have been away and I looked at my blog follow history and found this one of yours that I missed. Well, back down stairs to the guests.

Still love the slide show --- >> Kevin

    1. I understand completely, Timeless.

Thank you for visiting, and for the reminder to count our blessings and do everything in our power to make the world a better place and ease the suffering of our fellow travelers on this beautiful, wounded planet.

    1. Thank you, Kylee! Being such a lovely place, (as you know!) there seems to be one photo-op after another. Loved being there with you, too, and glad we had extra time at the airport to visit, too. Looking forward to seeing you at IGC! Hugs back atcha!

  7. Thanks for the tour, Linda--what a beautiful place! Everything looks so cool and inviting, though I suppose Little Rock is as hot right now as everywhere else. Seeing the photos reminded me that I never did get a 'Senorita Rosalita' this year as I had intended.

I wish some of those rainstorms hitting Chicago in the past week would find their way south:)

    1. My pleasure, Rose! It was hot in Arkansas, even in early May. (Although now, 90's seem almost cool!)

'Senorita Rosalita' seems to have exploded in popularity this year, and with good reason. She is in a lot of my clients' gardens, too. We're getting some thunder and light rain this morning, and it's quite welcome, along with the more moderate temperatures that blew in yesterday afternoon. Hope you get some rain soon, and hope you're benefiting from some cooler temps too.
