After sending home as much as we could with our guests, grilled pizza was our favorite leftovers dinner, and humongous omelets were wonderful breakfasts.

You and Philo picked a good year to stay home - this was not an ideal Christmas for traveling in or out of Chicago to say the least.

Happy New Year!garden girlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13284047851881823280noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7447389184218295999.post-67746982623249029202008-12-31T17:22:00.000-06:002008-12-31T17:22:00.000-06:00Hi Linda - hope your day was happy and that you...Hi Linda - hope your day was happy and that you've figured out what to do with the leftovers. As newlyweds we cooked a 16-pound turkey fo 2 people so learned about dishes like Turkey Divan and Turkey Hash very young.

This year Philo & I opted to sleep in our own bed this year instead of driving to Chicago. We missed them and they missed us but no one had to worry about us in transit and we were spared the drama when melting snow threatened to flood basements ;-]

Happy 2009 to you and yours,

Annie at the Transplantable RoseAnnie in Austinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14662139490401110432noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7447389184218295999.post-34688242470959143972008-12-28T05:52:00.000-06:002008-12-28T05:52:00.000-06:00Hi Gail, thank you! The weather just wasn't conducive for traveling this year.

I'm glad your son made it home for Christmas, and hope you had a wonderful Christmas!

Isn't it pretty up there Carol! Thank you for your warm holiday wishes! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas.

Thank you Tina! Yep, I agree - there's nothing like one's own bed, and I'm glad M&M stayed warm and safe at home this year. Some Christmases, the weather just doesn't cooperate. I hope you had a wonderful holiday!

Thank you Ewa! Wesołych Świąt to you too!

Thank you Connie! Merry Christmas to you too, and best wishes for a wonderful garden in 2009!

Thank you Carolyn! The Lawn Man definitely outdid himself this year! It was quite a feast. (We're still feasting on leftovers!)

I'm sure Christmas with your new grandbaby was very special!

Thank you Joy! We had a wonderful time, and the feast was indeed ginormous! Happy Holidays!

Thank you Chandramouli! We missed having Mom here, but are glad they opted to stay home. The roads between them and us were not safe for traveling this year. Besides the snow, there was an ice storm. We saw lots of accidents on the news.

Thank you Amy. We had a lovely, very low-stress holiday this year - I'd say one of the best Christmases my sweetie and I have shared together. And now with lots of time off from work, we're still enjoying the holiday season.

I hope you had a wonderful holiday too. Holidays are so much fun when the kids are small!

Thanks Cinj. The Lawn Man is a tireless and very thoughtful host. He works very hard to make sure our guests enjoy themselves.

I think we may be freezing some stuff too. (and sending some sweets to work with the Lawn Man!)

Thank you Rose! I felt much better knowing M&M called it. This was not a good Christmas for traveling between our two states. If they'd decided to chance the trip I would have worried. It was much more relaxing for all of us knowing they were safe at home.

Yep - he cooks! In fact our second date was New Year's Eve and that was the first time he cooked for me. And it wasn't just to impress either - he does most of the cooking around here. He's chief cook and I'm chief bottle washer!

Hi Monica, strange weather indeed, huh! We had 61 degrees yesterday. The weather's been all over the place. One day it's below zero, and a couple of days later it's 60's and thunderstorms. Eesh!

Glad you got home safely - sounds like your drive was something of a nightmare!

Thank you Sherri! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas.garden girlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13284047851881823280noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7447389184218295999.post-46633340255863261602008-12-27T15:47:00.000-06:002008-12-27T15:47:00.000-06:00Linda, a belated Merry Christmas to you!Linda, a belated Merry Christmas to you!Sherrihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11955995520615536271noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7447389184218295999.post-88870177245981471422008-12-27T09:49:00.000-06:002008-12-27T09:49:00.000-06:00Hi Linda, hope you had a joyful holiday! Yesterday the roads were ice--it took me FOUR hours to get home from my mom's, which usually takes an hour, 15 minutes!
~ MonicaMonica the Garden Faeriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06369882350990949968noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7447389184218295999.post-69868702149430124442008-12-26T19:08:00.000-06:002008-12-26T19:08:00.000-06:00I hope you had a wonderful Christmas, Linda! While I'm sure you missed having your mother ad M&M celebrate with you, at least you knew they were safe at home, not on the treacherous roads or stranded in the airport. I think I'm ready for spring! Oh, and your husband cooks? You are one lucky lady!Rosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01384059342847120951noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7447389184218295999.post-88962968050157580202008-12-26T06:47:00.000-06:002008-12-26T06:47:00.000-06:00I hope it was fun. We had a 19 pound turkey upon his request and he asked his mom to bring a ham too??? It might be fine if he even LIKED ham but what in the world was he thinking? So with a 19 pound turkey, a 14 pound ham and only 6 of us eating (5 if you take a sick Peanut out of the equation) that adds up to a WHOLE lot of leftovers. I think I'll be freezing a bunch since MIL refused to bring more home.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09582157624382487302noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7447389184218295999.post-50551506830841849682008-12-24T22:20:00.000-06:002008-12-24T22:20:00.000-06:00It sounds like you have a lovely celebration plann...It sounds like you have a lovely celebration planned, even if some of your loved ones will be missing from the merry-making this year.

Merry Christmas Linda!

AmyAmyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08691765466320690473noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7447389184218295999.post-37164268660475890882008-12-24T21:52:00.000-06:002008-12-24T21:52:00.000-06:00Hi Linda,I wish you a merry and joyous Christmas a...Hi Linda,
I wish you a merry and joyous Christmas and your family and friends too.
